Flock Manager

Frequently Asked Questions

Flock Manager — everything you need to know

Getting Started
How do I add a second flock?

Go to Settings → Manage Flocks and tap the + button to create a new flock. You can switch between flocks from the home screen or anywhere you see the flock selector at the top.

How do I add my existing birds after setup?

The onboarding flow adds your first bird, but you can add the rest anytime. Go to the Birds tab and tap the + button, or navigate to Settings → Flock Management. There's no limit to how many birds you can add.

Can I backfill egg data from before I installed the app?

Yes. When logging eggs, tap "Today" to change it to any past date. Your analytics will reflect the historical data as if it were entered at the time.

Does the app work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes — Flock Manager is available on both the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). It doesn't sync anywhere automatically, but you can use the Export/Import feature to back up your data or transfer it to a new device.

Logging Eggs
What's the fastest way to log eggs?

Tap the egg button at the bottom of the Home page. Just tap + to get your count and Save.

If you want to attribute eggs to individual birds, tap Log by Hen instead for a per-bird entry view.

What is "Auto-distribute eggs"?

When enabled, if the number of eggs you log exactly matches your number of active birds, the app will automatically attribute one egg to each bird — no extra steps. You can turn this on in Settings → Egg Logging. It's especially handy for small flocks where you can reliably tell who laid what.

My rooster keeps showing up in the hen selection list. How do I fix that?

Make sure your rooster's profile has the correct gender set. Go to Birds → [your rooster's profile] → Edit and confirm the gender is set to Male. He'll then be excluded from egg attribution and won't appear in the freeloaders list.

Can I log eggs for multiple flocks separately?

Yes. The flock selector at the top of the egg log sheet lets you choose which flock you're logging for. You can view combined or per-flock analytics from the Analytics tab.

Birds & Flocks
My hen isn't laying right now but she's not gone. What status should I use?

Keep her as Inactive — that's the right status for who's still part of your flock but not currently laying. It keeps her out of the egg logging dropdown and out of stats without implying she's permanently gone.

How do I filter by roosters or non-layers in the Birds tab?

Roosters and non-laying hens are Inactive by default — "Active" means actively laying. Use the Status dropdown at the top of the Birds tab and select Inactive to see them.

Can I track health events for my birds?

Yes. Open any bird's profile and tap Add Health Note. You can log different types of events — illness, injury, treatment, molting, broody behavior, and more — with a date and optional notes. Health notes appear on the bird's profile timeline so you have a full history at a glance.

Can I add photos to bird profiles?

Yes — tap any bird's profile, then tap the photo area to add an image from your camera or photo library. Photos are stored privately on your device and never uploaded anywhere.

Expenses & Finances
What does the Value tab show me?

The Value tab is your flock's financial dashboard. It shows three key numbers: Egg Value (what your eggs would cost at the store), Your Cost per Dozen (expenses minus sale income, divided by eggs kept), and Net Impact (egg value minus total expenses). Tap any card to see the step-by-step math behind the number.

Set your local retail price per dozen in Settings so the app can compare your cost to the store — if you're coming out ahead, you're "beating the store."

Can I track recurring expenses like monthly feed costs?

You can mark any expense as recurring when you add it, and the app will remind you when it's due. Automatic recurring expense entry (where the cost is added for you) is planned for a future update.

I sell some of my eggs. Can I track income too?

Yes — tap the + button on the Value tab and choose Add Income. Log the amount, date, and optionally how many eggs were sold. Sale income reduces your effective cost per dozen and factors into your Net Impact calculation, so you get an accurate picture of your flock's finances.

Analytics & Achievements
What do the analytics charts show?

The Stats tab shows your egg production trends over time — daily, weekly, or monthly — along with laying rate and comparison to a previous period. You can filter by flock and choose time ranges like Last 30 Days, This Year, or All Time.

What are achievements and how do I earn them?

Achievements are milestones that unlock automatically as you use the app — things like logging your first egg, reaching 1,000 eggs, or beating the store price. You can view all available achievements and your progress in Settings → Achievements. Your latest unlocked achievement also appears on the Home screen.

Trial & Purchase
How does the free trial work?

Flock Manager includes a 14-day free trial with full access to every feature — no credit card required. After 14 days, the app enters read-only mode until you unlock it. You can always export your data regardless of trial or purchase status.

How much does it cost, and is it a subscription?

$4.99, once, forever. There are no subscriptions, no annual renewals, and no "pro" tier. One purchase unlocks everything for the lifetime of the app.

I got a new phone. Do I have to buy it again?

No. Go to Settings → Restore Purchase to recover your access on a new device using the same App Store or Google Play account you originally purchased with.

Privacy & Data
Where is my data stored?

Everything is stored locally on your device — your flock data, bird photos, egg logs, and expenses never leave your phone. There's no account, no cloud sync, and no server on our end that holds your information.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Settings → Export Data to download a ZIP file containing all your records as CSV files. This works even if your trial has expired — your data always belongs to you.

Can I import data from a backup or another device?

Yes. Go to Settings → Import Data and select a ZIP file previously exported from Flock Manager. The import will restore your flocks, birds, egg logs, expenses, income, and photos. This is the easiest way to transfer data to a new phone.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

It's deleted with it — since nothing is stored on our servers, uninstalling the app removes everything. We recommend exporting a backup first if you think you might want to reinstall later.
